240/365 - Sunday family dinner

Sunday, August 28, 2011

This one was fun. I like the impressionistic feel.

I love having all the kids home for Sunday dinner and it overwhelms me at the same time. While eating breakfast Sunday morning, I decided to invite them or ensure they would all be home for dinner that night. Then by 4 pm when I'm headed to the grocery store to purchase the food we need to make fo dinner, I'm saying to myself how tired I am and what the heck was I thinking. Happens almost every time. Thankfully it always turns out fun having them all scrunched in at the table, talking, laughing and feasting. This night we were a party of nine. I had to capture the craziness that happens when we are all in one small room of our small house.

I used the SlowShutter app on my iPhone then boosted the saturation with Camera+

This was especially nice to wake up to today as Mother Nature has not been kind to me for the last few days. I won’t get into details (you’re welcome) but lets just say, her latest “gift” has been far too extravagant. Oh and NO THANK YOU.

So I ended the day with the most amazing, relaxing, and nurturing massage from my Personal Massage Therapist and trainer, also known as, MY Sister. We were scheduled to work out (train me) but I seriously could not do it today. MY Sister knows me, knows what I need, when I need it and boy did I NEED a massage.

MY Sister is the best; she has a gift that can save the world. Too much? I think not. One massage from her makes me feel better (SO much better!) I’m calmer, happy, and nice to my family. My family, in turn, feels better so they are nice to others and so on and so on. See what I mean?

I highly recommend a massage as often as you can afford to get one. Even if you can’t get one from the best, MY Sister, you will still benefit from them. Trust me.

And yes, I LOVE MY SISTER.

First I have to wish my BFF a Happy Birthday. I love you woman!
We spent the day with our Best Friends; Hubs’ Brother and his Wife, for her birthday and we had a wonderful time! Bro rented a limo so we could trip around Napa Valley and do some wine tasting. It was all a surprise for my BFF and It was so nice for the four of us to just kick back, let someone else drive so we could talk and hang out. Oh and drink wine of course. We didn't care about the usual wine country traffic while we were being transported to wherever we wanted to go.

We toured the Robert Mondavi Vineyard and Winery to partake in some (breakfast) tasting. Joe, our limo driver took us to a yummy deli were we picked up a bottle of wine and some sandwiches and then he took us to another winery where we had a picnic. I don't know why I can’t remember the name of that one. We then went on to some wine and chocolate (desert) tasting at Beringer Vineyards. After, we had Joe drive us next door to the Culinary Institute of America at Greystone. We have all passed by this gorgeous building many times but this is the first time any of us had been inside.  When we were done there we headed back into St Helena for some snacks, some more wine and a rest so the Birthday Girl could take a little nap before dinner. We dined at little Italian Restaurant and, yes, had more wine.  Whoa! Way too much wine. Oh but it was fun and very rare these days that we get to spend any time like this together.

230/365 - Fajitas for dinner

Thursday, August 18, 2011

The appetizer was a “Skinny Margarita” (photo of that in my Flickr stream down there on the right.) So, this is as far as I got making photos because once the chaos of making these fajitas, sipping on my cocktail, trying to keep the dog and grandson out of the kitchen, sending Princess to the store for tortillas, Son going in and out of the house and asking for help as he was getting things together for a camping trip with his girlfriend, and answering the phone was all out of the way...well let’s just say I had nothing left.

THIS right here is a normal, everyday thing in my home. Chaos. Some days are not as crazy, some are more so. The next couple of weeks will be up there on the Richter scale of chaos as these boys get ready for their trip.

And I wonder why I have a hard time completing a thought.

I love my family. I would, however, like just a little less crazy busy and a little more calm.

229/365 - Tonight's sunset brought to you by my friend Partly Cloudy Sky

Wednesday, August 17, 2011

Just another reminder to myself to stop and smell the roses or shoot the sunsets. I get so wrapped up with the negative chatter in my head over some of the most trival BS that I have no room to just enjoy this ride and appreciate whatever comes. Life is beautiful. Life is short. Just be.

Yes, I enhanced this just a bit. The sky was gorgeous but I love boosting the saturation for these kind of shots.

Target practice. Son was practing with his bow before dinner. He and Hubs are getting ready for a big trip to New Mexico. I would love to go but I would much rather stay in a hotel and explore the galleries in Sante Fe or Taos than camp out in a tent with a bunch of hunters. Have fun boys.

227/365 - Power lines

Monday, August 15, 2011

Hubs and I went to a funeral today. It was a packed service. A real testament to the legacy this person has left in our lives. There were a lot of tears, some laughter, reminiscing, sadness and love. Lots of love. The day was very emotional, as expected. Funerals are always difficult. They are always a reminder to me that we need to live our lives to the fullest and appreciate our loved ones every moment because we just never know. RIP Trish, you will be missed.

On our long drive to the services we saw Black Eyed Susans everywhere; fields of them and then bunches along the side of the road or just a few here and there. We also saw trains, everywhere. I’m fascinated by trains. And once again, I’m aware; I need to get out more. Of course we didn’t have time to stop and take photographs but I did capture this at a stoplight along some railroad tracks.

On our long drive back home, I received an email from Tracey Clark telling me that I had won a spot in her Big Picture class; “The Art of Composition.” Oh my goodness! I’m so surprised I won and super excited.

What a day.

226/365 - Phonograph

Sunday, August 14, 2011

Back downtown (same place as Saturdays Farmers Market) today for our town's 10th Annual American Iron Car Show. It was HhhhHOT. As in the sun was hot. I was okay for a bit and then suddenly felt like I was going to melt. Really, car show planners clearly aren't photographers. This show ran from 10 am to 3 pm, the worst time to capture the beautiful lines and colors of those gorgeous machines. Plus it was HOT. They should have car shows just after sunrise or just before sunset. The light would be awesome. I really didn't photograph the cars as I was too busy drooling. And did I mention it was HOT? I don't do heat. I did capture this actual working vintage record player. That was before I began to melt.

Yep, farmers market this morning. I picked these because I liked how gnarly they were. And they looked yummy. It really wasn't until I got home that I thought about making a photo. Give a boy a power tool and he'll be busy for hours.

I interrupted Doodles while he was 'helping' Uncle and Poppa fix the fence to ask him a few questions...
So, what is that you have there? "A screw gun."
What are you building? "Um, wood."
That looks pretty heavy for..."Bye!"
Guess he had a job to do.

Mid 1940's radio as part of a display at the Bass Pro Shop in Manteca, CA .

We almost always have to stop here whenever we are in the area, which isn't very often. Thank goodness. Hubs always has to stock up on something. It is an interesting store. The bonus for me, in addition to the photo ops, is that there is now a Sephora in the same shopping center.

This here is a dangerous place. I love Bookstores! They are my friends. Friends that call to me often and ask me to visit. I could spend hours with them. This little area of Barnes & Noble had me mesmerized for a good part of my lunch hour. I mean really, Crafts/Hobbies and more Crafts!

216/365 - One more week of this

Thursday, August 4, 2011

At least I hope I get the bandage off and keep it off next week. I will still have six weeks of no resistive gripping or heavy lifting. So, no riding my quad or weight lifing. Again, there is no good time for hand surgery.

Here, my daughter, Princes the EMT, was waiting patiently to rewrap the outside with clean coban. I was enjoying a few moments of semi freedom.

Doodles and I went for a walk. He is always busting at the seams with energy so I just let him walk and I followed. He peaked through broken fences, wondered about some garbage left in the creek, wanted to know what was in a storage shed, walked in circles, said hi to someone getting in their car, stopped to talk to a big gray cat, flapped his arms, and found this bench. He sat at one end and then proceeded to stand up and sit down all the way to the other end. He was still only for a minute and only because I told him I was making this picture for his girlfriend. Then we headed back home since it was getting dark and we didn’t want to turn into pumpkins. He led the way of course.

213/365 - Sunset rose

Monday, August 1, 2011

I’m calling it a Sunset Rose because the sun was setting as I was making this photo. These are from my neighbor’s yard again as I don’t have rose bushes. I wouldn’t know what to do with them if I did. I flunked gardening. I used to be good at house plants but recently I’ve been demoted to cacti, in pots, outside.

At the moment I’m still healing from the minor finger surgery and I can’t do much of anything. Just typing this is awkward, slow and sometimes painful. But I’m not here to whine. Or maybe I am. Every day I want to write and most days I do, if only in my journal but holding a pen is even more difficult than typing. Guess it’s time to use Voice Memos on my iPhone. At least then when I’m talking to myself (as I often do) I’ll look as if I’m talking on my phone.

210/365 - Help! I can't feel my middle finger.

Friday, July 29, 2011

Yes, I'm right handed and yes, I just had minor surgery on my right "long" finger. This has been scheduled for months but really there is no good time to have a procedure on the hand you write with, eat with, do everything with. Ugh. This has slowed me down. Not that it is a bad thing it's just that I was already a bit behind on posting here and then had this done and now I'm really lagging. My hand cramps up the longer I type and I have to keep it wrapped like this for at least two weeks. I know, I'm whining. The good thing is the pain isn't so bad that I need to take the vicodin the doctor prescribed. Okay, I'm done.

I wasn't going to use this photo for this project but decided that this one represents my life at the moment. As in, it's always something and to explain why I may be late posting to this 365 project of mine. No, I have no good excuses for being late before. I could say I was busy living or I could just call it. Slacker.
