179/365 - Good Morning!

Tuesday, June 28,2011

6 am Sunrise, oh my! Why I was up this early when I don’t need to be, is, well… I really don’t want to get into the stress that is causing the emotionally draining over thinking of everything right now. I’m just glad I got this photo out of being up at the “butt crack” of dawn.

This color is why I love incoming or outgoing storms or monsoon season in the southwest. INTENSE colors! Monsoon season was one of my favorite things when I lived in Arizona many moons ago. This display here in Northern California was due to a very unseasonably wet storm that came down from Alaska. Just to water MY “grass” I’m sure. I use the name grass loosely because our backyard is really a large patch of weeds that I try to keep green for as long as I can into the summer. Thankfully it rained all day, which was wonderful for my…lawn. Personally I would take partly cloudy skies every day. Makes for great photo ops.

No editing. Straight out of my iPhone and posted to Instagram.

178/365 - Georgia (O'Keefe) on my mind

Monday, June 27, 2011

Bleached Elk skull mount from New Mexico. When I see these I think of Georgia O’Keefe, Ansel Adams, simple, quiet... She made beautiful paintings of bleached skulls (and more) and was friends with him.

I have been to and/or through all the southern states except New Mexico. I’m not sure how that worked out but I have wanted to go and spend some time there. Hmm, I do know people that are going there in September. I need to see if I can work that into my schedule.

Could someone please remind me about once a week that I really DO want to go to New Mexico so I don't get so caught up on other life things and not get to planning this?

iPhone photo edited in PS Express, Camera+ and Infinicam.

177/365 - Carnival lights!!

Sunday night, June 26, 2011

Now THIS? THIS is some FUN stuff here! This Carnival popped up at a local highway interchange on Wednesday about five minutes from my house. All I wanted to do was capture the color. I first saw it at daylight and knew I had to go at some point this weekend. I didn't want to ride the rides, I just wanted to shoot the color. I love Ferris Wheels and roller coasters but the temporary ones freak me out a bit. OH but the COLORS!! So, I stalked that temporary amusement park the whole weekend, looking for a place from a distance where I could capture it all but being at the intersection of two highways made it difficult. Unless I wanted to stop on an off ramp. Did I mention the COLORS?!! I settled for being in the mix, late (for us) on a Sunday, with my husband, my tripod and our cameras. Oh and some cotton candy. A wonderful way to end another busy-with-life-issues weekend. Thank you HUBS!!

Update: This photo is featured on Shutter Sisters! http://shuttersisters.com/365/2011/6/27/365-by-diane-meade-tibbetts.html I follow their blog almost every day but when I clicked on the 365 link and MY photo popped up, I LOST my mind. Ask my husband. He's just looking at me and shaking his head. While smiling of course.

Wow, what an honor. Thank you Sisters!

176/365 - Fresh from the Farmers Market

Saturday, June 25, 2011

Spent a couple of hours this morning downtown enjoying the Farmers Market and brunch with Hubs and grandson. A very nice way to start off the weekend AND it was a beautiful day. I didn’t realize when I bought these fruits and vegetables that I would have such a great photo opportunity. When I got home, I pulled everything out of my bag and decided I needed to shoot this bounty. Then I ‘bout lost my mind when I looked over and saw my crusty baking stone still sitting on the stove. Perfect for a tray/backdrop and the light was still coming in the back (east side) windows strong enough to capture this.

It fees so good to dust off and create with my poor neglected 30D.

175/365 - ...stage left. Happy Friday!

Friday, June 24, 2011

Enough said. Right?

I see ths sign every day but today I saw it and it said exactly what I was feeling. I really don't want to exit this crazy life we have, I would just like it to calm down a bit. In the mean time I'll make photographs...

174/365 - Small town grunge

Thursday, June 23, 2011

There is so much to photograph in this old downtown area and I tend to be down her around sunset yet I’m also always in a hurry to get home. I must start scheduling myself to be down there longer so I can explore.

I’d like to use these walls as a back drop for some portraits. If I did portraits. I’m usually going for candids. Next project: practice portraits.

Simplicity. With all the goings on around here, things like this view catch my eye. I was going to write that they SCREAM at me but screaming is a whole different story for another day.

Made with my iPhone during my lunch break. Cropped only, on my iPad with the Camera+ App. Of course the iPad takes credit for the photo in the Exif data. I don’t get this and the fact that when I take a picture and then maybe edit and/or post it a few days later, the date says I took the picture right then. Thankfully the date and time can be corrected after posting to Flickr.

172/365 - LOVE this mag!

Tuesday, June 21, 2011

Okay, Sunset has to be my most favorite magazine. A close second, for now, is (are) Whole Living, National Geographic, Photography Magazines, Oprah….

Yes, I love magazines! I love books too and reading, clearly. I recently decided I want to read some classics and so far I’ve downloaded Chopin’s ‘The Awakening’ to my iPad. I KNOW! The classics on an iPad? Sacrilege! I should at least have the classics in hard bound but …. I just donated six bags and a box of books to our local library because I do not have the room. And magazines, OH MY, I swear they breed when I’m not looking. There is not enough time in the world to read all the books and magazines I want. I know, one day at a time.

Back to Sunset magazine; Great photography, food, gardening and travel. All of it local-ish. The July issue is for Food lovers! Now who doesn’t love food? I know I do and I love learning how to photograph it all. Time to grab this issue and so some day trips on the weekends.

Yes, ANOTHER toy. We are getting quite a collection here and need to sell two dirt bikes to fit this puppy into the “fleet.” Now Hubs and I can ride quads together instead of me on mine and him on a dirt bike. Of course the real reason this was purchased now instead of later is that the boys are going to New Mexico in a few months and they needed another ride. Hey whatever works. I got my quad because Hubs needed it for hunting and when he got back from that trip; the quad became mine.

And now...I wanna RIDE.

Hanging out at the local sporting goods store with Hubs for Father's Day. He needed new boots, I needed new shoes (I always need new shoes!) We really only spent about an hour there but I am always looking for photo ops. I loved these shadows from this...gate? There were magazine racks in the way so I moved them. Yep, rearranging items in a store to get a better shot is just one of my things. I put them back the way I found them. Usually.

169/365 - Skylight

Saturday, June 18, 2011

This is actually another of the same one I posted to my 365 Project. I decided it needed to be cleaned up before I posted it here.

I was paying a morning visit to Grandma T at the hospital. I just had to capture this beauty on the way through the Lobby. My favorite part of this photo is the muted shadows from the grid in the soffit (?) on the west side curve of the skylight. Actually I like the whole photo, a lot.

168/365 - Trestle

Friday, June 17, 2011

I took my grandson to school this morning. This train track runs along the highway on the way to his preschool. I knew there would be a decent photo up here in this one spot this early in the day so I had to go there before I went to work. I am always attracted to infrastructure and when the light is good, I just can't resist capturing it. Next time I need to remember to bring my 30D.

167/365 - "There's nothing to eat"

Thursday, June 16, 2011

I know this is a common kid complaint. I raised (still raising) three of them. They just want to grab something and go. I get it, I did the same thing. Still do at times.

I don't know what I was thinking here other than that I wanted to take a picture of the inside of my crowded, outdated fridge. So I did.

165/365 - Veggies

Tuesday, June 14, 2011

Yum, tomatoes and mini bell peppers….

It was a HOT day. So we, or rather, I decided we were having salad for dinner. The boys aren’t too fond of this but us girls LOVE them vegetables! To be fair I also added (already) grilled chicken. Gotta love Trader Joes.

Whenever I am making meal with lots of vegetables I love the color and always want to photograph it all. Unfortunately, the best light in my “crusty” kitchen is in the morning. That’s great for breakfast but not so much for dinner. This was taken with my iPhone, mostly natural light and my white cutting boards. I need to get some more of those.

Layers as in layers of Apps. Captured with my iPhone, edited in Camera+ and then Picfx and... I could probably keep playing with other filters but then I would never get anything done! Someday soon I will pick up my 30D again. *sniff. And what is with me and the Square photos lately? Must be from my Instagram addiction.

The lotus flower and halo are from the sun shining on the wall through the glass of my sister's front door.

163/365 - Mr. Comet waiting for a check-up

Sunday, June 12, 2011

My Nephews car. It fits him so perfectly. I love it! I like to photograph it every time I see it. Being as old as it is, it tends to need work so his dad lately has had to drive down towards us (about a three hour drive!) to do the work. My husband "encourages" them to bring it to our house since he has all the tools needed. Thankfully being as old as it is, most things are easy to fix. No smog, no computers...they just don't make them like they used to.

162/365 - Happy 75th Mom!!

Saturday, June 11, 2011

This photo is actually the day after her birthday...

Just a snippet of what makes my Mother so amazing; She lost her husband in her early thirties and didn’t marry again (to her soul mate) until nineteen years ago. In those years between she raised three children by herself and worked full time with some crazy schedules to make sure we had a place to live, food on the table and clothes to wear yet she never asked for nor received ‘government’ assistance. Us kids did not make it easy on her being somewhat rebellious. She traveled the world and has the stories to tell. She lost her only son fifteen years ago, something no parent should have to endure, and kept on living life to the fullest. My Mom has always been smart, loving, opinionated and very strong and I SO admire that about her. I wish she would write a book so I could read it over and over. The title should be something like "My Daughter's Hero."

Yes, now I'm crying...

My birthday gift to her was her choice; I would fly out to see her for a few days or I would fly her out here for as many days as she wanted or neither. Thankfully she came out here and stayed with us for four days. What a brave woman! She has a pretty busy retired life in Arizona. She has a beautiful home with her husband, walks daily, has a lot of friends and a quite the social life, is the president of her local Historical Society and she is her husband’s right hand woman for his Senior Foundation which takes up most of their time and energy. Yet I was concerned that all of us would overwhelm her with all our noise, mess, activity...family members. She hadn't seen some of the grand kids in three years. Big changes but I think she enjoyed herself. I know I enjoyed having her here.

I love my Momma!

Friday, June 10, 2011
We took my mom out to dinner for her birthday. She got her own dessert, with a candle and a song. Our kid, on the other hand, have a tradition to share a dessert and I think it's fun to watch. Even our grandson gets in on the fun.

Thursday, June 9, 2011
We were driving back from picking up my Mom at the airport and there really was a lot of traffic. It was commute time. So, it was moving slowly. Lights, lines, blur...
This is fun! Taking the photo, discovering it later on my phone and then playing/editing it to make even more awesome. I like tunnels, bridges, cranes, buildings...

159/365 - Morning light

Wednesday, June 8,2011
This is the only north facing window in my house and the light is beautiful coming in here. This is also the first day in a while that the sun was actually shining this early. I want to add more windows on this side. Mabye when we get around to finally updating the kitchen (aka MAJOR remodel). I had just cleaned all the glasses stored here and the inside of the window. The outside is another matter to be dealt with soon.

158/365 - Bird watcher

Tuesday, June 7, 2011
Miss Peaches being held inside against her will. We have nests with baby birds learning to fly and kitties like birdies. So we are toturing this poor, poor cat by keeping her inside for a bit. Clearly, she is suffering as she eats and eats and then sleeps the day away, on my bed.

157/365 - Calm before...

Monday, June 6, 2011
The Warrior Princess (son's girlfriend) graduated from high shcool. We only brought my husbands camera becuase it has an awesome zoom but I haven't gotten my hands on the SD card yet to upload one really nice photo I made of that beautiful girl. Guess I'll just have to post it later. In the mean time I was having fun with my phone and other views while we were waiting.
I've sat on this here lawn for many concerts and been here for several graduations (including my three kids). Unfortunately, for all the local high schools, this is the last year they will be having the graduation ceremonies here. It's back to the football fields and limited space.

155/365 - Morning walk in the rain

155/365 - Morning walk in the rain

June 4, 2011

I was heading down town on this rainy Saturday morning when I saw this building and decided I needed to come back after my appointment to photograph. When I arrived downtwon I saw this same gentleman walking and really liked his umbrella. When I went back to make my photograph about an hour later, Mr. Cool Umbrella Man was walking by the building. It just happened and I was there to capture it.

154/365 - Cluster

Cluster

June 3, 2011
Have to add the date to keep these in order. Specifically when the Weekend gets away from me and I haven't had time to post.
I'm not sure what my fascination is with this...Electrical box. I think it is part of our buildings fire alarm/sprinkler system. It's interesting. I tried to make a photo with Hipstamatic (when are they going to make it so we can edit photos with their filters?) but it was crooked and I was worried someone would stop me from getting the pictures if I kept going. Why?

153/365 - Storm passing by

Storm passing by

We have had the strangest weather lately. So strange that the Weather service can't even predict it correctly. And Tornadoes in California?!! I do like the cooler weather but it's really hard to decide what to wear every day normally and now I have no idea in the morning what the day is going to bring. Kind of like the rest of my life.

152/365 - T's Lady Bug house

152/365 - T's Lady Bug house

June 1, 2011

Starting the month off using my DSLR! Also I'm now further along, more on top of it and more organized on this project than I was last year at this time. Wow, practice and persistence does pay off. Still enjoying the project though some days are really so full that it can be hard to remember to make a photo.

My grandson here. Excited because some of the eggs in his lady bug house have hatched and are now actually lady bugs. Really had to work on this photo to get the white balance somewhat correct and to get his blue eyes to not be brown. Pretty blown out but his cute face makes up for my lack of skills.

May 2011 Mosaic

May 2011 Mosaic

All but two photos in this mosaic are with my iPhone. It's been one of those months. I love my iPhone and all the apps! Have I said that before?
Something is up with linking my blog to Flickr. I have found a work around BUT it requires more steps so I will see how long I can keep this up.

151/365 - It was one of THOSE days

151/365 - It was one of THOSE days

Whew! This Tuesday felt like a REALLY long Monday due to the holiday. Not only were we super busy but we were short one person AND stuff broke. Just another day in Corporate America. I'm thankful I have a good job. AND I am also plotting my eventual escape from...The Cubicle. Of course at the rate I get stuff done, this could be when I retire.
